Introduction
Faculty of education is one of the major faculty of Tribhuwan University. It is one of the leading institution for offering teacher education in Nepal. Initially, the teacher education in Nepal began with the establishment of the Basic Teacher Training Programme in 1947. Recognizing the need for trained teachers, the then-government of Nepal, advised by the Nepal National Educational Planning Commission (NNEPC) in 1954-55, recommended the creation of a College of Education, which was founded in 1956. The primary objective of the College of Education (COE) was to produce trained teachers for primary and secondary schools. With its establishment, teacher training in Nepal took on a more structured form. In 1971, the National Education System Plan was introduced, and COE was renamed the Institute of Education (IOE). A decade later, in 1982, following the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Higher Education, IOE became the present Faculty of Education (FOE).
The Faculty of Education (FOE) is the largest faculty under Tribhuvan University in terms of student enrollment and number of campuses, which continue to grow. With 26 constituent campuses and 560 affiliated campuses across the country, FOE has the most extensive network for teacher training in Nepal.
Janta Multiple Campus acquired affiliation to faculty of education since 2060 BS. Thousands of students are benefited from this faculty and involved in teaching profession. Under the faculty of education, four major subjects (English, Nepali, Health and Population education) and two minor subjects (Health and Population education) are teaching on bachelor level. Moreover, MEd program has been affiliated since 2064 BS. English Education, Nepali Education, Health Education, Education planning and management and Curriculum and Evaluation education are major subjects in masters level. Since 2074 BS, MEd program is changed into the semester system.
